Healthy Eating On A Monthly Budget and Income
Everyone knows that it is more expensive to eat healthy Diets rather than junk foods. A tight budget contributes to poor eating habits in numerous ways. It's sometimes true, that junk food much of the time costs less at the grocery store than the more healthy choices. Even when you're dining out, it's cheaper to through a fast food hamburger joint than it is to go to a restaurant that offers fresher, healthier options.
Your budget doesn't have to be as tight as you perceive for healthy eating goals. Simply follow these easy possible answers and think 'outside the grocery bag'.
Budget Sensitive Tips for Healthy Eating
Tip #1 - Farmer's Markets
Often times you'll find a farmer's market locally in the warm months and, if you are a city dweller, you can find farmer's markets selling all four seasons. You're going to find the best seasonal deals and you'll often come upon amazing items at prices that are always welcome.
If you are not sure where to look for a farmer's market, the bigger ones probably have phone book listings.
Tip #2 - Grocery Store Coupons
You can find deals on fresh produce when you are willing to visit a store other than your favorite to take advantage of the best the best savings. With regular shopping, it will become obvious that each store consistently has better pricing on certain items, but you never know who might be having a Mother of all sales, that when everything is added up in the end, will save you money in the long term.
Tip #3 - Cut Your Own Vegetables
You are only fooling yourself, if you think you are not paying for convenience. 'Baby carrots' aren't as good for you, being able to choose and know exactly what healthy ingredient you are adding to your new healthy eating diet. You'll get more nutritional benefit you're looking for, when you're willing to do the preparation of your fruits and vegetables, rather than paying somebody else to.
Tip #4 - Stop Buying Prepared Meals
Not nearly as daunting as your Mother may have conditioned you, homemade cooking: soup, stew, the dreaded 'casserole", and just about anything you buy ready to eat in a box or carton, no doubt about it, has much more nutritional benefit. Sitting on a shelf, collecting dust kind of food is purposely made to 'survive a nuclear strike', thus it should be anything, but rocket science, that such unhealthy alternatives is loaded with extra, but completely unnecessary calories, sugars, sodium - (salt), and don't get me started about the mystery ingredients you've never heard of, plus a surprise dead insect - or a still alive one! A cookbook even from your local library, so you don't have to spend a dime from your food budget may sound intimidating, but recipes are made to be easy and step-by-step. Side note: It's been around for generations, but the newest edition of, 'The Joy of Cooking' I can attest is a wise way to spend your money.
